Gig Stuff From Over The Years

Terence V. McCullough

With a live event career spanning more than 30 years, Terence (or T, to most folk) has an extensive skill set ranging across arenas, clubs, convention centers, amphitheaters, boat docks, parking lots and just about anywhere else a live gig can be held.

Now based in the Phoenix, Arizona area, Terence is a California native, having grown up in Los Angeles. He was blessed to be present for, and a part of, the blistering live music scene in L.A. in the 1980s. This experience was the beginning of a lifetime journey that has not ended. He relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1984, with a strong desire to delve further into live music. He pursued it as a vocation.

Beginning with the legendary Bill Graham Presents (trained by Mr. Graham himself, among other top folk) in the 1980s, Terence was active in the areas of production, stage technical duties and promotion skills from the very start of his career. While immersed in the BGP world, Terence also began performing backline duties in the Bay Area local club scene for anyone that would let him, for free. His first paying guitar tech gig paid him $25.00 for a 14-hour job, with the band Angel Witch (with Tom Hunting, Doug Piercy, and a guest appearance by Gary Holt) at the Omni in Oakland, CA in 1990.

Terence’s proper touring history began in 1990, with the Bay Area metal legends Vicious Rumors, as a guitar tech. His backline path has never stopped, and his experience is deep and diverse. T’s worldwide touring and recording backline clients over the years include Rob Zombie, BUSH, Trauma, OK Go, Filter, Smashing Pumpkins, Ted Nugent, Sixx A.M., Otep, Lostprophets, Eels, Linda Perry (with 4 Non Blondes), Quiet Riot, Testament, and Mark Kozelek (with Red House Painters), among others.

Terence graduated the School of The Road apprenticeship and began tour managing and accounting, starting with Quiet Riot in 1994. His close friend Kevin DuBrow pushed him forward to tour manage Quiet Riot, tour in progress, telling him, “You’d be a fantastic tour manager. I’m making you our new TM. Now go get my money.” And he did.

T’s worldwide tour management/accounting clients over the years include Eric Martin, Filter, The Bravery, Five Finger Death Punch, The Horrors, Scrap Metal, Night Ranger, and Yngwie J. Malmsteen.

When not on the road, Terence established a years-long excellent reputation with I.A.T.S.E. Local 16 in San Francisco, including as a steward for labor.
